Transport
Rathdrum Cancer Support Group has been providing Free and Confidential Transport for Cancer Patients since 2008.
We welcome and encourage clients to avail of our Transport Service. The following guidelines and procedures enable Rathdrum Cancer Support to provide the Transport Service to our clients. It is for anyone with a cancer related appointment
How to Register
Contact the Transport Coordinator to discuss transport requirements and register with Rathdrum Cancer Support Group by completing a short Registration Form. Once Registration Form has been received, transport can be provided.
How to Book Transport
To book transport, contact the Transport Coordinator with the following details:
Appointment date, time and location. If known, please also give a rough idea of length of appointment.
If assistance is required, please arrange for a family member, relative or friend to accompany the client. A driver cannot provide this assistance.
Advance notice helps manage the service better for our clients. Where possible at least one week’s notice is required, however, in some instances we understand that this is not always feasible.
As this is a voluntary service, your call may not be answered immediately but leave a message and include your name and number.
Area Covered by RCSG Transport Service
- This volunteer-based service caters for clients living in Rathdrum and surrounding areas**.
- We provide pick up from home or agreed collection points to hospital and back again for clients.
- Transport is provided to hospitals and clinics throughout Dublin and include these hospitals Beaumont, St Luke’s Rathgar, St James’s, St Vincent’s, Mater, St Columcille’s Loughlinstown, Beacon etc. Transport to cancer related medical appointments within Wicklow is also provided.
** If a cancer patient lives outside the area, collection points within the specified area may be agreed with the Transport Coordinator, Anne.
Drivers
- We aim to have a team of up to 20 drivers.
- Drivers are allocated using a rota system and depends on driver availability on specific days
- Be assured that volunteer drivers are aware of maintaining a discrete and confidential presence when driving a client to and from appointments.
- The Transport Service is FREE, drivers are volunteers, no payment is required.
Drivers use one of the two vehicles owned by RCSG. When demand is high, drivers will use their own vehicles and receive a fuel allowance.
