Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation.  We always welcome people who are interested in becoming a Volunteer Driver or a General Volunteer.

Volunteer Driver
Our most requested service is our Transport Service.  This service is provided by volunteer drivers. The Transport Service would not be able to operate without the kindness and generosity of our drivers with their time.

The driver is the face of RCSG and the individual who interacts with our clients the most.

Cancer patients benefit greatly from the assistance of volunteer drivers. As a volunteer driver, you save patients from having to use public transport or plan their own transportation. For a lot of people, this is an essential service that helps them feel better and makes sure they can travel to and from the hospital in comfort while receiving cancer treatment.

As a volunteer driver, your primary responsibility is to transport service users from their residence to the hospital and back.

Because the length of treatment can vary and occasionally take longer than expected, you will need to be available for the entire day on the day of the trip.

One of our two vehicles designated for the Transport Service will be used by you. Sometimes drivers will be asked to utilize their own car when demand is high and a fuel allowance is then provided.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Use of a mobile phone is required.
  • Excellent communication skills and dependability are required, as is punctuality.
  • Recognize the importance of maintaining confidentiality and refrain from sharing anything you hear while on duty.
  • Act with courtesy, sensitivity, and friendliness.
  • Feel at ease volunteering without close supervision.
  • Be adaptable and possess the capacity for self-motivation.

Please get in touch with our transport coordinator if you're interested in volunteering as a driver or simply want more information.

General Volunteer
The role general volunteers can have within the organization is an essential element of a well-functioning one. Anyone who gives their time and services to the Rathdrum Cancer Support Group without expecting money is considered a volunteer. Our services are dependent on volunteers' kindness.

The general volunteer's responsibilities can range from helping in fund-raising activities such as coffee mornings and other events, to visiting hospitals or participating in committee work.

Professionals are always invited to voluntarily share their knowledge with the group or with clients. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you want to volunteer actively!
