Who We Are

The main objective of Rathdrum Cancer Support Group is to offer support to cancer patients and their families.

In the shelter of the forest. No tree stands alone.

We offer practical help and emotional support to clients and their families at various stages through their cancer journey, from diagnosis to treatment and in turn help clients to move forward after their hospital treatments end. We provide transport to treatments and medical appointments, counselling, support groups and other therapies. A team of volunteers and access to trained professionals are available to help those with a cancer diagnosis along with their families and carers.

Respecting each person’s confidentiality, we provide information, counselling and therapies, free of charge in a relaxed and homely atmosphere. Whether you need transport to hospital or just a cup of tea and a chat in our centre at The Old Library, 11 Gilbert’s Row, Rathdrum- we are here to help as best we can.

Based in the town of Rathdrum our services are available to Rathdrum and surrounding communities of Aughrim, Avoca, Clara Vale, Redcross and Barndarrig etc.

Our Principal Activities

  • Clients are transported from their home to daily to treatments and medical appointments throughout Dublin and Wicklow.
  • Coordinating drivers to meet the individual transport requirements of clients.
  • To support and provide practical and emotional supports for clients and their families.
  • Supporting clients to adapt to life with/after cancer with trained professional one-to-one counselling and other complementary therapies that fully conform with best medical practice
  • Providing opportunities to meet fellow cancer patients for Support and Peer Groups activities.
  • To provide advice on entitlements and other financial supports, assistance with form filling e.g. Carer’s allowance, medical card applications, etc
  • To promote Cancer Awareness in the community through Open Days, Information Evenings, Guest Speakers, National Cancer Awareness Events; Social Media, Local Radio, Local Newspapers
  • Drop-in Centre at The Old Library, 11 Gilbert’s Row, Rathdrum for information/support
  • Promotion and hosting of fund-raising events to support the work of Rathdrum Cancer Support Group.
All services are offered FREE OF CHARGE and confidentiality is ensured
